Potential Republican presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., hit the Sunshine State for the second time in recent weeks on Thursday. Ryan, the chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee and running mate of former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., in the 2012 presidential election, appeared at a fundraiser in Longboat Key with three Republican congressmen from the Sunshine State: Vern Buchanan, David Jolly and Jeff Miller.

Former Gov. Jeb Bush’s 2016 presidential prospects got a boost this week as a new poll shows him leading the pack of Republican presidential hopefuls in a key primary state. A Palmetto Poll released this week shows Bush rolling in South Carolina which traditionally holds its primary after Iowa and New Hampshire have their say.

Joe Gruters, the chairman of the Sarasota County GOP, is not running to replace Lenny Curry as the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF), but he continues to remain active in shaping the party. Gruters is backing Clay County GOP Chairwoman Leslie Dougher to replace Curry.

Florida has a favorite son in 2016, according to a “Florida Insider” poll released by the Tampa Bay Times on Friday, with 74 percent of the politicos saying former Gov. Jeb Bush, R-Fla., will run for the Republican presidential nomination but only 33 percent of them expecting U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., to enter the contest. Few of the insiders expect Rubio to run if the former governor is in the hunt, with 86 percent saying the senator stays out if Bush is in. ...
