While Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville has dominated the headlines with his Quran-burning to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Florida’s politicians are also remembering the tragic event in spirit-lifting, more solemn and less controversial ways.

Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville announced late Thursday afternoon that he is canceling the Quran-burning event scheduled for Saturday -- and added that a deal is in place to move a mosque farther away from its planned site a block and a half from where the World Trade Center stood.

Religious and political leaders from across the country and around the world continued Wednesday -- almost unanimously -- to condemn a planned Quran-burning event in Gainesville. "International Burn a Koran Day," to be led by Pastor Terry Jones from his evangelical World Outreach Center, is still scheduled for Saturday -- the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
