Florida’s unemployment rate remained at 12 percent in December, leaving the Sunshine State with the same unemployment rate it started with at the beginning of 2010, and 2.6 percent above the national jobless rate of 9.4 percent.

When you call to mind images of Florida’s Space Coast, depending on your generation you may think of JFK’s immortal speech sending us to the moon or you may remember watching your first shuttle launch. Regardless of which memory comes to mind, the context is that of incredibly thrilling innovation and patriotic pride.

Blaming "past decisions to end the Space Shuttle program," President Barack Obama followed through with his pledge to create a task force to bolster Florida's sagging Space Coast.

The White House's announcement was alternately welcomed and derided by the region's congressional delegation.

Florida Senate leaders on Monday began unveiling their long-awaited legislation to create jobs for some of the state's one million unemployed workers, proposing to spend as much as $165 million to boost jobs in aerospace and the film industry.
