Surrogates are increasingly playing prominent roles in the Florida gubernatorial contest. Looking to win members of his new party over to him, former Gov. Charlie Crist had former state Sen. Dan Gelber out front this week, hitting Gov. Rick Scott for cutting education. The Crist team sent out an email from Gelber to supporters on Wednesday trying to rally Democrats against Scott on education.

A CNN/ORC poll released early this week finds two potential Republican presidential candidates from Florida are in the single digits while there is no front-runner in the field. U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., leads the pack with 16 percent followed by U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., right behind him with 15 percent. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas takes third with 11 percent followed by former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas, who moved to Florida after his 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, with 10 percent.

"There are two parts to this story:

"The first one is the celebration of Marco Rubio as our party's nominee. Never in our party's history have we witnessed a 65-plus point swing in a statewide campaign involving two well-known candidates. Kudos to him. Marco has risen to become a darling of Republicans nationwide and is the heavy favorite to become a U.S. senator before the age of 40.
