Gov. Rick Scott’s creation of a task force on higher education is timely, and could be beneficial if it doesn’t get sidetracked into focusing solely on funding.

For those who have read about or vaguely remember the stolid British tribe of Dunkirk, the Battle of Britain and the Blitz, which held out in its "finest hour," last week brought a disgusting sight.

While it's fashionable to blame Rick Scott for everything bad but cancer, the governor absolutely, positively had nothing to do with a tuition increase at any Florida university.
It's no coincidence that the four-year-old story about state Sen. Mike Haridopolos' "book deal" resurfaced this week. After all, he's running for U.S. Senate, and that makes him target practice for both the right and left.
A Leon County judge upheld the Legislature’s ability to set tuition for the state’s 11 public universities, knocking down a challenge from former Gov. Bob Graham who thought the Board of Governors should control university costs.
