Incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, has a number of challenges as he steps up to his new role, tries to prop up Attorney General Bill McCollum’s floundering gubernatorial campaign, and tackles Medicaid and other health-care issues. But he does not have to worry about a challenger looking to deny his bid for re-election for his seat which includes parts of Brevard, Indian River, Osceola and St. Lucie counties.
Haridopolos posted impressive fund-raising numbers -- bringing in more than $707,000 and spending more than $341,000 before sewing up the election. While Haridopolos has a leading role in a number of Florida’s political dramas, his bid for another term is not one of them.
