Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford has announced that the city is renewing its efforts to inform the public about a gun bounty program that encourages people in the community to turn in people who’ve committed crimes with illegal guns.

The program give a $1,000 reward to anyone who reports an illegal gun, assuming the report leads to an arrest.

ATLANTA | Georgia state Rep. Tyrone Brooks on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to federal charges of mail fraud, wire fraud and filing false tax returns.

Brooks entered the plea on his 30-count indictment before federal Magistrate Judge Alan Baverman.

Baverman set a $25,000 unsecured bond for Brooks and ordered him to surrender his passport and to limit his travel to the state of Georgia unless he receives prior permission from the court.

The Florida Times Union Lenny Curry steps down as Duval GOP chairman

State GOP chairman Lenny Curry has left his post as chairman of the Duval GOP so he can focus on state and congressional races.

On Monday, Circuit Judge Adrian G. Soud sentenced Quintavis Sermond Seay, now 20, for the manslaughter of 20-year-old Jeremy Ervin Godboldt in 2009. Under a plea agreement between Seay’s lawyers and prosecutors, Soud had the discretion of sentencing Seay to anywhere from five to 15 years.
