U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Fla., already one of the top Republican targets in November, is playing defense after a gaffe during a Google event Tuesday in which he said “communism works.”

Speaking about immigration, Garcia looked to contrast Democrats and Republicans on the issue.

“When you attract people, you are the dominant culture that people want to emulate and copy what you’re doing because it works,” Garcia said. “And, in America, we are doing a huge disservice to ourselves by not understanding how powerful of a driver in the economy an immigration system that works can be, and continues to be, and by not having an immigration system that works.

“Let me give you an example, the kind of money we’ve poured in,” Garcia added. “So the most dangerous -- sorry, the safest city in America is El Paso, Texas. It happens to be across the border from the most dangerous city in the Americas, which is Juarez, right? And two of the safest cities in America, two of them are on the border with Mexico. And of course, the reason is we’ve proved that communism works.

“If you give everybody a good, government job, there’s no crime,” Garcia continued. “But that isn’t what we should be doing on the border. The kind of money we’ve poured into it, and we’re having diminishing returns. So while we’re doing -- we’re spending all of this money here, we have border problems in Puerto Rico. We haven’t been able to set up a system that’s safe there. People are finding alternative routes. The opportunity to get this right and the mistake that Republicans make -- and I say Republicans because it’s Republicans right now -- I’m known to say that Democrats were also possessed by xenophobia in 2008 and particularly after 9/11 and the economic crisis, but today we’re in a much better place as a party. And the problem that Republicans have is that they’re fighting a battle they cannot win.”

Garcia attempted to correct his comment, noting to the Miami Herald that his parents fled Cuba after the Castro regime came to power.

"This is an absurdity, accusing the son of Cuban immigrants of believing in communism is just ridiculous," Garcia told the Miami Herald.

But Republicans aren’t buying it. On Wednesday, Katie Prill, a spokeswoman for the NRCC, went after Garcia on a host of matters, including a recent Web video showing the South Florida congressman cleaning his ear with finger and proceeding to eat his earwax, which went viral.

“Congressman Joe Garcia has embarrassed South Florida families with his voter fraud scandal, his bad committee hearing hygiene and now he has the audacity to say communism works,” Prill said. “If his bone-headed behavior before wasn’t an indication, this irresponsible statement proves that Joe Garcia is not fit to represent the 26th District in Congress.”

America Rising, a PAC backing Republicans, released the video with Garcia’s statement.

Miami Dade School Board member Carlos Curbelo’s campaign team, the favorite for the Republican nomination to challenge Garcia, took aim at the Democrat on Wednesday.

“Joe Garcia’s endorsement of communism is both offensive and embarrassing to our community,” said Nicole Rapanos, a spokeswoman for Curbelo. “The only thing Joe Garcia has once again proven is that he is unfit to serve in Congress -- much less lead an effort to pass high-profile legislation. Our district deserves an effective congressman we can trust in Washington; not someone who constantly embarrasses us and makes headlines for all the wrong reasons.”

He was trying to make a point about what a government-sponsored economy can do for people. Anyway, even in communist countries (and there aren't many) "workers" go to "work" at "jobs". Technology will force them to confront the same problem we are looking at -- the eventual elimination of jobs and work. We are all in the same "boat".

As everyone with a brain knows, there are the "good" and "bad" communists, just as there are rich and poor communists. Slick Willie and the hildabeast can be the "good" commies while the no-class beat-down dummies, who dare not question anything, can be the "bad" commies.

Let them eat earwax! (Lenin). So, the headline says GOP and constitutents, but how about me? I'm a Democrat and not his constituent, and I'm shocked and appalled too. Re-write headline. Everyone hates him.

Communism works huh? How many millions of people have been killed or starved to death by their communist government over the last century?
3 of the top 10 safest cities in America are in Texas. If anything El Paso is safe because of the number of citizens and law enforcement officers carrying guns which discourages crime.
The direction the Democrat party is going in absolutely disgusts me.

Mr. Garcia,
If EVERYONE voluntarily ate their OWN earwax, OR were compelled to do so by the Federal "nanny state",... "Communism" might just work. YOU Mr. Garcia are a proud 'credit' to your Cuban "roots" (Your family must have left the Cuban version of "paradise" long after the 'indoctrination'....can you play baseball or were you a 'rider' on the "Mariel boat-lift"?).

If Rep Garcia didn't believe in communism he wouldn't have joined the democratic party. While he attempts to sidestep his comments the root of his beliefs are tied to communism as is the democratic party's platform. In Garcia's own words "give everyone good government jobs." Mr. Garcia who will pay for those jobs??? Hence a government controlled state i.e. communism. Unfortunately, Rep. Garcia drank the cool-aid and believes that government and not hard work is the solution to the economic problems that plague us. Classic communism 101 promise them freebees. How sad.

You're absolutely right. Communism/socialism is what the Democrat party works toward, they just usually don't admit it on tape. Think about it, expanding government, creating new programs, increasing taxes, increasing spending, all of these things are part of their platform and they all push us in the direction of communism. Why would they do such a thing? So they can have all the power in their hands and control the populous, oh, and get quite rich in the process.

YEA! "U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia, D-Fla., already one of the top Republican targets in November" is feeling the wrath of the Bush machine! He might just as well throw in the towel now - Surprised the architect Karl Rover[r] had time to throw punches at jeb's adopted sister-in-law Hillary and stir up a tongue gate controversy with Joe Garcia who has fell from grace!

Jeb Bush Endorses Carlos Curbelo for Congress in Florida’s 26th District

Miami, FL – Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush announced his endorsement of Carlos Curbelo in the election for Florida’s 26th Congressional District. Bush first broke news of his endorsement of Curbelo via his Twitter feed today.

I am pleased to endorse Carlos Curbelo for Congress. He is a proven education reformer and a strong proponent of expanding economic freedom and cutting wasteful spending. Carlos will bring a servant’s heart to Washington to represent Miami-Dade and Monroe counties. I look forward to supporting Carlos’ campaign this year as he articulates his bold vision for the future of our nation,” said Governor Bush.

“It is my great honor to have Governor Bush’s support. During his tenure our state and our citizens prospered, and our children benefit today from his leadership in overhauling Florida’s school system. His tireless efforts to reform education in America and prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow have inspired so many. He remains the great Florida role model of public service,” said Carlos Curbelo. “With Governor Jeb Bush’s endorsement of our campaign, we continue the momentum needed for victory in August and November,” Curbelo added.

Curbelo, a husband, father and member of the Miami-Dade County School Board since his election in 2010, is seeking the Republican nomination for the congressional seat currently held by Democrat Joe Garcia. Garcia has been under a cloud of controversy and scandal since shortly after being elected in 2012. His Chief of Staff was convicted for absentee ballot fraud last year and his campaign remains under FBI investigation. If he was int he clique this would all evaporate overnight just like Ray Sansom and the Marco Rubio RPOF credit card scandals. Just like the RPOF congressional districts trial going on right now in Tally before Judge Terry Lewis. That trial for the repukes is like the Kermit Gosnell baby killing trial for the dems - it is not newsworthy! That is except the Republican Party of Florida who has paid just one of their consultants Pat Bainter over $6.2 Million dollars - is now paying for the lawyers to defend has actions. Does that equal a conspiracy to defraud?

Florida’s 26th Congressional District encompasses much of southwestern Miami-Dade County and all of Monroe County. Curbelo had raised approximately $650,000 for the campaign as of December 31, 2013, far outpacing his competitors for the nomination.

It wasn’t big “news” to everyone, however, least of all to the other Republicans vying to go up against Congressman Joe Garcia in November. “No surprise,” said former Miami-Dade Commissioner Joe Martinez. “Carlos is the choice for the power brokers, the party insiders, and Jeb Bush is part of that,” Martinez told Ladra.
Curbelo could not be reached immediately for comment. Ladra imagines his phone was ringing off the hook this morning. But the endorsement comes the day after a Curbelo fundraiser with a large contingent of GOP hosts that include Jeb Bush, Jr., or Jebby and Ladra had said here weeks ago that this move was inevitable.

Most interesting to Ladra, however, is how the Curbelo campaign, for the first time really, is talking about a race in August. Up to now, Curbelo’s strategy has been mostly to target Garcia and ignore the other Republican hopefuls: In addition to Martinez, the primary ballot could be bulging with Cutler Bay Mayor Ed MacDougall, Miami self-described constitutional expert and attorney Lorenzo “Larry” Palomares-Starbuck and Jose Felix Peixoto of Key Largo, the only Monroe-based candidate.

Maybe Curbelo realizes he may have a real race on his hand in less than six months.

So, using your logic, Karl Rove forced Joe Garcia to eat his own ear wax on CSPAN and forced him to admit in public that he believes communism works??

Funny how it's always the Democrats who are investigated for voter fraud by using the absentee ballots. In 2005 Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and his cronies was indicted by a special prosecutor for that same thing. Then like magic that special prosecutor dropped all those charges and just made them go away. It seems the Republican prosecutor was told if he proceeded with this case and won it would affect the results of the 2004 George W. Bush narrow win in Florida and the so called I-4 Corridor!

Funny how the Republicans fix races and issues with their little Clint Curtis-Tom Feeney-Jeb Bush optical scanner vote counting machines and no one ever notices or has sense enough to suspect it!

How did Obama get 141% of the votes cast in St. Lucie County, Florida in November 2012? the machines don't really count the votes. they give a percentage to the selected winner and split the rest among the losers as per pre-progamed to do so!

And the last elected Secretary of State admitted Diebold and other machines could be fixed to do this! Results Diebold changed their corp name and the legislature abolished that elected position. Form now on the Secretary of State will only say what they have been authorized to say!
