Here's how small-business owners can become politically active through the Florida Chamber of Commerce:
1. Join a local chamber.
2. Sign up for e-mail updates.
3. Lead a local task force, such as an effort to delay unemployment-tax increases.
4. Join a national industry group.
5. Travel to Tallahasssee with a local chamber to lobby as a group.
6. Run for office.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce, which represents about 236,000 state businesses, hosts events during the legislative session in which businesses can join efforts lobbying for a common agenda. The chamber also offers a “grassroots advocacy” Web site called OneVoice, in which businesses can network and watch daily video briefings during the legislative session.
