Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, former University of Florida President John Lombardi, University of North Florida President John Delaney and former UF football standout and coach Steve Spurrier are on a list of candidates to replace retiring UF President Bernie Machen.

However, the three-dozen-deep roster shouldn’t be viewed as a finalist list as the names are of people nominated for the post.

Cannon and Delaney have publicly professed to be flattered but uninterested.

Spurrier, whose pass-oriented offense was known as the "Fun 'n' Gun" and is credited with putting “The Swamp” moniker on Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, is currently walking the sidelines at the University of South Carolina.

The list, released Wednesday, was obtained by the Gainesville Sun through a public records request from Miramar Beach-based Greenwood/Asher & Associates, which has been hired to conduct the search.
