What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I was a political science major at The University of Florida, so I've always been interested in public service.

What do you consider to be your greatest political achievement?

Rewriting statues which protect children in divorce cases.

What was your biggest political faux pas?

I've had good mentors who have kept me focused on my basic philosophies, so I really haven't had any.

Who in state government do you most admire?

Former attorney general Jim Smith and former Gov. Bob Martinez. They were both great leaders and Southern gentlemen.

Who in all the world do yu most admire?

Margaret Thatcher, because she was able to articulate what other people were thinking.

Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?

Rep. Ron Saunders and Rep. Darren Soto, because they are very bright and we challenge each other on issues and frequently agree.

What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?

Frequently people want me to intercede on federal issues, but I've also been asked to get involved in neighborhood disputes.

What is your favorite place in the world?

Pinellas County, because we have incredible diversity both in population and topography, with great urban centers as well as incredible nature preserves.

What is your least favorite household chore?

I do a lot of the cooking but I don't like doing the dishes.
