Rick Perry Leads the GOP Pack But Mitt Romney's Beating Obama

By: Kevin Derby | Posted: September 20, 2011 7:42 AM

A USA Today/Gallup poll unveiled on Tuesday found that Texas Gov. Rick Perry led the field for the Republican presidential nomination -- but did not do as well as GOP rival former Gov. Mitt Romney when matched up against President Barack Obama.

Perry topped the national poll with 31 percent, followed by Romney who took second with 24 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul stood in third with 13 percent.

The rest of the field lagged in single digits. Support for U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann continued to slide. She garnered 5 percent -- placing her in a tie with former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and businessman Herman Cain for a distant fourth. Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania took 2 percent followed by former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah with 1 percent.

When the rest of the field was taken out of the equation, Perry continued to lead Romney 49 percent to 39 percent. A majority of conservative Republicans and tea party supporters backed Perry, while moderates and non-tea party supporters leaned toward Romney.

A majority of Republicans surveyed -- 53 percent -- thought it was more important to nominate a candidate they felt would beat Obama, while 43 percent thought it was more important that the party’s nominee stood with them on the issues.

Romney had a slight lead over Obama among all those polled and with registered voters. The former Massachusetts governor beat the president 48 percent to 46 percent overall and 49 percent to 47 percent with registered voters.

Obama led Perry by 4 points overall -- and took 50 percent among registered voters with the Texas governor following with 45 percent.

The USA Today/Gallup poll of 1,004 adults was conducted from Sept. 15-18 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent. The sample of 889 registered voters also had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent. The sample of 439 Republicans and Republican-leaning independents had a margin of error of +/- 6 percent.

A national poll released by CBS News and the New York Times over the weekend found Perry leading the pack of hopefuls for the Republican presidential nomination with 23 percent. Romney took second with 19 percent. Gingrich and Bachmann tied for third with 7 percent. Cain and Paul were knotted with 5 percent each. Santorum and Huntsman took 1 percent each. The poll of 781 Republicans was taken from Sept. 10-15 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

More evidence of the American public's rapidly-increasing level of awareness of important trends in national political races going into the November 2012 presidential race: Conservative Republicans like the untested newcomer, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, better than they like a very seasoned LESS conservative Republican candidate, former Gov. Mitt Romney from the New England area. But coincidental polls of likely voters show that Gov. Perry cannot beat President Obama while former Gov. Romney could. Wanna bet who gets the nod?

Forget Obama, Perry, and Romney, these guys are a just window dressing for a system that is corrupted. They all play for the same team that controls the democratic process and will do anything to maintain the two party system, and they're prepared to take turns in order to do so. People need to relearn the philosophical and historical origins of the American Republic and wake up to the Cultural Marxism that has pervaded the system over the last 100 years.

I was shown this video by a friend and it was the most liberating, energizing and thought provoking thing I have watched! This was a gift to me and I want to give it as a gift to as many as I can........ And I encourage all you supporters of Ron Paul to watch this and share this link OVER and OVER again. PLEASE.

I believe it will help deprogramme the country faster than anything else, time is running out. Do not feel content in your own knowledge, share with those you like and dislike equally and do it with persistence and humility for truth can be painful and resistance is natural. You are much more important then you realise. Every single one of you can make a truly spectacular difference.

Mitt will be the 2012 Presidential Nominee for the GOP UNLESS THE TEA PARTY IS WILLING TO CHANCE THE HUMILIATION of a 2nd Obama Term. The Tea Party in some ways is helping Obama more than the GOP because of their 'either my way or no way" selfesh attitude.

A few of you are saying Ron Paul is too 'kooky' or 'out there' to be elected. What is your basis for these statements? From my view point, he is the only candidate who ISN'T a nut job in this field. Since when does staying true to the constitution make someone crazy? If people would just actually research his policy proposals and stop buying into these rehearsed one liners from these corporate-backed phonies, I think they would realize what Ron Paul stands for, which is not power or greed. Yes, he wants to bring all of our troops home from all over the world. Not even getting into how our security situation would improve, this country simply cannot afford it! I think people who support Rick Perry for the GOP nomination are nut jobs. I think that because he was a 'CAMPAIGN STAFFER FOR AL GORE'S PRESIDENTIAL RUN'. Democrat one election cycle, Republican the next. If that doesn't scream opportunistic, then please tell me what does. When Ron Paul was standing side by side with Reagan, this guy was a freaking Democrat. And the media conveniently doesn't seem to notice. Give me a break people. WAKE UP! - Concerned Naval Officer
