Rick Scott: I Care About Unemployment, Not My Poll Numbers

Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday he is less concerned about his approval ratings than the unemployment mark.

When asked following an appearance before the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, Scott didn’t directly address the results of a Quinnipiac University poll released earlier in the day that indicated Floridians have a low opinion of their governor.

“The number I look at every month is our unemployment rate,” Scott told reporters at the Leon County Civic Center event.

“We’re bucking the national trend, we’ve come down 2.5 percent in the last 17 months.”

Scott is upside down in the poll, with 49 percent of those surveyed disapproving of the governor while 39 percent approve of his tenure in Tallahassee. Nevertheless, a solid majority of 60 percent support Scott’s effort to stop noncitizens from voting, purging them from the rolls.

Meanwhile, Scott didn’t gloat when asked about the results in the poll that found a solid majority of Floridians supported his ongoing effort to clear non-U.S. citizens from county lists of registered voters.

“I’ve not met one person in our state who said non-U.S. citizens should be voting in our elections,” Scott said. “It’s my job to make sure that only U.S. citizens vote in our races.”

On Tuesday, a coalition of civil rights groups -- groups that adamantly claim to be nonpartisan -- filed a lawsuit charging Florida with race discrimination for how it has gone about trying to find people ineligible for voting on the county registration lists.

This was the third lawsuit filed against the state -- joining one by the ACLU of Florida and another by the U.S. Department of Justice -- seeking to halt the state’s work.

Florida has countered with its own lawsuit to gain access to the Homeland Security Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) database the governor’s office has requested since September. The state claims it has tried in vain to get DHS's help in finding noncitizens among Florida’s registered voters.

Thank you Gov. Scott! Best Governor!
Of course then we care not to deal with those, FRANK, who migrate to this state from other states... who think they should tell those of us who have LIVED here...how to to live and be governed. GO BACK TO YOUR HOMETOWN! WHY DID YOU LEAVE ANYWAY, TO TELL FLORIDA HOW TO LIVE. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Go to EU, all Europe for your socialism, leave here, please... frank. BTW, 2nd state of creating jobs in the O (Marxist) regime, which he will never acknowledge, next to Texas-. 2 of the conservative states o loser would like to annihilate. Go back to socialist N.Y. , or any other EU regime! PLEASE LEAVE

Oh, you mean like carpetbagger Rick Scott who hasn't even lived in Florida for half my 40+ years?

Sorry, but you don't get to tell anyone to leave, much less someone who's been a Florida citizen since 1971.

Yes, I know it's the law and you detest the law, but it is the law, and just reconfirmed by the Supreme Court that you don't get to police your state borders.

Learn to live with - love it or leave it, isn't that your motto?

Of course, you'll be a self-made hypocrite, just stewing in your own juices and staying here.

Typical Mad Hatter response - faced with facts you don't like, you just go ballistic. Pathetic, and laughable, if not so sad.

As for Rick Scott being the "Best Governor", well, you just go on believing that and yelling it everywhere. Don't be too surprised if most decent folks just go out of their way to shy away from you. No one wants to catch virulent Mad Hatter Disease.

Great!

Then he won't worry about what happens at the November 2014 election polls either.

By far, the worst Florida governor during my time in Florida (40+ years).

I am proud of my Governor Rick Scott. He is a true leader; one that will walk through the mine field first and say "follow me." He is not afraid of the press, the Commie-in-Chief, or the KGB better know as the "The Justice Department." He is following Ronald Reagan philosophy; "Just do the right thing and politics will take care of itself."

Go, Rick, Go!!

RepublicanConscience--I believe you. i do believe you'd be the first to follow him into the minefield happily.

Tea baggers are so very stupid, they are downright funny. Bwhahaha.

This man has made a laughing stock of the state on the entire planet with his absolute ignorance, arrogance and stupidity. Nothing will be left of the state except for cheap, useless tea.

Guest,
Quite positive you have NO knowledge of history of which brought us to this position in which conservatives are highly protesting....quite positive you cannot expound on what reason you have for the fierce accusations you portray....correct? There is history which shows the regurgitation of these very same misfortunes and the reactions of government, yet surely this is unknown to you.
Explain yourself. (quite sure you cannot do so in an eloquent manner, or at all!!!)
Naturally, you are immature, with NO experience,,,THUS NO WISDOM!!!

Of course you must be right. That explains the 31% approval rating.

It also explains the dozen or so Rick Scott actions that have been found to be unconstitutional, and why Mitt Romney is avoiding him like the plague.

Yes, Rick Scott is a well respected laughing stock around the country and the frequent butt of night time comedians.
