Florida Today is reporting that more than 12,000 civilians at Florida military installations will be furloughed for up to 22 days unless Congress acts to stop automatic budget cuts set to take effect March 1.

"The move would save the government $94.5 million, part of a congressionally approved plan known as 'sequestration' that is forcing the Defense Department to slice about $46 billion from its fiscal 2013 budget that runs through Sept. 30," Florida Today reported.

"The Pentagon’s plan also calls for deferring $22.6 million in repairs and maintenance as well as $14.8 million in new construction planned for Air Force installations around the state. That includes more than $1.7 million in electrical, lighting and other infrastructure upgrades to buildings at Patrick Air Force Base, and about $225,000 for the costs of demolishing buildings at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station."
